Another Hole-in-One

Following Colin Cricks hole in one that I reported in last weeks newsletter, I am pleased to announce that Mrs Lesley Crick followed in her husbands footsteps by holing her tee shot on the 2nd hole in the Ladies Spring Meeting last Thursday. Probably not the best day to have a hole in one when it comes to paying the bar tab! Well done Lesley.

Club Spring Meeting Stableford

William Herlihy came to me 6 months ago complaining that he was unhappy with his overall game and required help, and he had seen that I was offering a FREE 15 minute swing assessment. When we got to the range, it didn't take me very long to pick out the faults in his swing, and duly explained that there were issues in his set up and the line of his takeaway which led to general inconsistency in the impact area. Bill took these pointers on board and wanted to continue with the points I had raised, and believed there were other areas that also needed work.

Bill signed up to my unlimited package which has me in his pocket for a year, and can call on me at anytime. His hard work and perseverance have paid off because he finished top of the pile in division 1 on Saturday in the Spring Meeting with 36 points. The score does not reflect the whole story because he had 25 points after 10 holes. This just shows that the improvement is obvious to see, but work still needs to done.

Phil and El must have been extremely happy with their efforts over the weekend as they won the men's division 2 and ladies division. Considering Phil has been out with an injury, this was a remarkable achievement so well done to you both.

Cross Country Golf Social Evening - Friday 9th May

Basic Etiquette and Club Rules

Can I just remind all of my readers with regards to basic etiquette on the golf course. There have been a couple of incidents on the course in recent weeks where people are not shouting "FORE" and coming very close to causing someone a nasty injury. If you have ever been hit by a golf ball you will know how painful it can be. The other issue is practicing on the golf course, club rules state that you may not hit more than 2 balls at any one time. Chipping round a green on the course with a bag of balls is certainly not allowed either. Please use the practice ground if you want to improve your technique.

Rule of the Month

Water hazards are always a contentious issue and a lot of golfers are less certain about where to drop the ball, so here are the rules for both water hazards and lateral water hazards.

WATER HAZARDS (yellow stakes) - Ball in water hazard (yellow stakes and/or lines) - play the ball as it lies or, under penalty of one stroke, a) play again from where you hit the ball into the hazard, or b) drop any distance behind the water hazard keeping a straight line between the hole, the point where the ball last crossed the margin on the water hazard and the spot on which the ball is dropped.

LATERAL WATER HAZARDS (red stakes) - Under a penalty of 1 stroke you have 4 options. a) drop the ball within 2 club lengths to the side where the ball entered the hazard, not nearer the hole. b) drop the ball behind the hazard as far as you wish keeping the point of entry in line with the flag. c) play another ball from your original position. d) drop a ball on the other side of the hazard, within 2 club lengths but not nearer the hole.

Ladies Charity Stableford

Here are some of the ladies having fun on the Ladies Charity Stableford Day; we sold plants and produce to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. A massive £309 was raised, and we all had fun dressing up.
