Hello golfers,
Masters Final
Tim Burke beat Toby Chandler 4 & 3 in the Masters Final. Toby had to give Tim 6 shots but the match was played in the right spirit and some good golf was played. Our thanks to John Blackley for refereeing the final.
Pro Am Result
The Pro-am last Friday went extremely well, with plenty of praise for the condition of the course from both Professionals and amateurs. Twenty-six teams entered with the format being best two from 4 medal. The winning amateur team score was an incredible 20 under par. The reigning champions Andy Hemmett, Kevin Lucas, Peter Ross and Professional Michael Day put up a stout defence but they finished 3 shots behind the eventual winners finishing 3rd. Simon Glastonbury, Matt Garner who is an ex member and Chris Young finished 4th and Wally Coleman's team finished 5th.
Congratulations to Danny Coote who had a hole in one on the 2nd and won himself a 2-night golf stay at the Forest of Arden for himself and 3 friends, which was kindly sponsored by circle insurance.
Professional's Alex Burge and Christopher Croucher tied for 1st place picking up the winner's cheque on a score of 68. Our own Michael Day finished tied 4th on 70 but was disappointed with his finish that cost him the top prize.
Just Another Reminder
1. Slow play. Should members find themselves losing a hole from the group in front, or being pressured from a group behind; then a call through must be made. Any group of golfers who feel that they are losing momentum or being held up, then a POLITE REQUEST to the group ahead should be made, to allow them to play through. Any group that receives such a request, should be considerate to themselves AND other golfers.
2. Handicap split between Division 1 and 2 for Men Golfers. After changing the split between Division 1 and 2 from 18 to 16 handicap, the Competitions and Matches Committee believe a revision of the split is now necessary. So from 1st September 2016 the split will now take place at 17. Division 1 therefore up to 17. Division 2 from 17.50 to 28.
3. AGM - 20th September - pre AGM 9-hole Competition from 4.30pm. Sign-up sheet will be placed on the noticeboard. It will be in groups of 4, with the 2 best scores counting on each hole.

With just one month to go until this year's Ryder Cup and the team is now confirmed. European captain Darren Clarke's three Ryder Cup picks are Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood and Thomas Pieters. I suppose we could have picked Lee Westwood based on his past experience and his performance in the majors this year.
Could Clarke have done anything but pick Thomas Pieters after he request he play with him in last week's Made in Denmark event where Pieters shot a first round -8 under par and then went on to win the tournament. This came on the back of his 4th place finish at the Rio Olympic games.
However Martin Kaymer's selection could have been seen the one debatable one, but if you recall he did hole the winning put in 2012 and has valuable experience.
So a mix of youth and experience seems to be the case here with 6 (six) rookies on the European side. Let's hope we can look forward to some more great golf just as we saw at Medinah Country Club in 2012 when it was last in America.
