16th Green
Unfortunately last week we had a hydraulic leak/explosion where one of the pipes burst and oil spilt onto the left side of the 16th green. Luckily Biff was manning the machine, and was able to get the machine off the green ASAP and prevented the damage from being any worse. The other saving grace was that it was limited to an area where we do not usually cut a hole.
Can I please remind all inactive handicap members that you only need to pay £1 and not £5 when entering competitions. The entry money cannot be refunded after the event.. The Pro shop do check the status of all money winners before any finances are allocated to accounts.
Rory McIlroy Wins at Wentworth
Double-major winner Rory McIlroy found solace on the golf course after the heartache of his recent split with fiancée Caroline Wozniacki by winning the PGA Championship.
The 25-year-old came from seven shots behind 54-hole Wentworth leader Thomas Bjorn to card a six-under-par 66 and win by one shot.
Bjorn blew a six-stroke lead early on to finish two back with Luke Donald, and McIlroy's good friend Shane Lowry finished outright second.
"When I was inside the ropes it was a little bit of a release. I was on my own, doing what I do best and it gave me four or five hours of serenity or sanctuary, whatever you call it," said McIlroy whose first win on European soil lifts him four places to sixth in the world rankings.
McIlroy and former world number one tennis player Wozniacki, 23, had been in a relationship since 2011 and the golfer proposed to the Dane on New Year's Eve.
The Northern Irishman said the past few days had been bizarre ahead of a busy June, which includes the US Open.
"I can't explain it. It's obviously a week of mixed emotions," he added. "I am looking at the trophy saying 'How the hell did it happen?'.
"I was asked in an interview how I feel and I don't know. I feel happy that I've won but it's been a weird week.
"I really wanted to win before going into the second major of the season. I couldn't have asked for a better way to prepare."
TaylorMade Launches new SLDR S Range
TaylorMade has announced the release of its SLDR S line, which includes new drivers, fairway woods and hybrids that continue the company's emphasis on "lofting up."
Like the company's original SLDR drivers, the SLDR S measures 460cc and has a center of gravity that is low and forward to promote high-launching, low-spinning drives to increase distance. Since it has a bonded, or non-adjustable hosel, TaylorMade was actually to position the center of gravity slightly lower than the original SLDR 460 driver, creating an even lower-spinning trajectory.
The SLDR S also has the same 20-gram sliding weight on the front of its sole, which gives golfers control over trajectory bias. But unlike the originals, the SLDR S drivers are only available in higher lofts: 10, 12, 14 and 16 degrees.
The SLDR S fairway woods and hybrids are a slightly different spin on the original SLDR models, with larger, lighter clubheads that boasts a shallower design to makes them easier to hit off the ground. The fairway woods are available in five lofts: 15 (3W), 17 (3W HL), 19 (5W), 21 (5W HL) and 23 (7W) degrees. The hybrids are offered in four different lofts: 19 (3H), 22 (4H), 25 (5H) and 28 (6H) degrees.
