Course Update
Our green staff by the weekend will have double verti- cut all of the greens due to the poa grasses sprouting white seed heads. At this time of year all the three different types of grass grow at various speeds. The Fescue and the Poa grow in much lower temperatures compared to the bent grass. When you next play take a look at the bent grass which is a much finer leaf and you will see that this grass is much shorter due to the rate of growth being less than the other types of grass. This inconsistency of growth will have an impact on the roll of your ball. Once the ground temperature increases the bent grass will catch up to the other grasses.
The scarring on the greens from the fusarium over the winter has in some areas still yet to repair. An application of top dressing next week, weather permitting will help smooth out the greens and hope that temperatures will increase in the coming weeks.
