Course Update
In the last week, we have received much welcome rainfall and an increase in temperature. This has increased the rate of growth out on the course and the greens are now in a much healthier condition. You may have noticed lines on the men's 7th, 12th, 17th tees and at the front of the 4th and 12th greens. This is due to extra maintenance being carried out called slit seeding. The machine cuts a very narrow slit in the tee of about 4 inches deep, grass seed is then poured into the slit and are then closed. Over the next few weeks we should see some results from this work carried out.
Wiseville recognise the practice nets are in extremely poor condition and understand this isn't how we want to portray the club and its facilities. We are currently awaiting a quote to have them replaced. In the next few days certain tee banks and bunker faces that are lush including the areas behind the bunker will be strimmed.
The left-hand side of the men's 11th yellow tee is currently being encroached on by the oak trees adjacent to the 4th green and they will be pruned back so that the whole of the tee will be available to use through the season. Further tree work will have to be reviewed and carried out in the autumn, especially behind the 17th tee and the green. The lack of light is becoming an issue with limited growth on the tee and around the green.
The damaged area from the oil spill last winter on 10th green will receive more attention and further maintenance, whilst we have good growing conditions.
Stella Rixon from STRI agronomists visited on Tuesday. She was extremely encouraged with the condition of the course and the maintenance work that is being carried out.
Women's Golf Day - Tuesday 6th June
FORE! WOMEN the website dedicated to guiding women who want to give golf a go, has got together with TSG to hold a joint event to celebrate Women's Golf Day at Bletchingley Golf Club in Surrey on 6th June 2017.
The day is designed to give those attending and who are new to the game, a fun 'taster' of the sport. The Social Golfer team will host the event on their Event pages and task its male members to bring at least one female friend or family member to the day, growing the sport. Male TSG PRO members can opt to play 18 holes while their female guests will join Felicity from FORE! WOMEN and the TSG team and they will receive an introduction to the basic skills of golf: putting, chipping, pitching and long shots. They will also be provided with plenty of opportunities to ask questions about their potential golfing journey. Ben Daniels will be on hand to give additional coaching and advice during the day.
There will also be prizes to encourage a fun atmosphere followed by a light lunch. Women will be able to attend the day for only £20 including lunch, making the day both affordable and welcoming. Taking TSG's PRO members as an example, if 1 in 10 brought along a non-playing female guest to the Women's Golf Day at Bletchingley, this would mean that we would be able to send a positive message to all male golfers.
Women's Golf Day is keen to remove as many barriers to golf as possible and it does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of sex, race, colour, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, or sexual orientation - everyone is welcome.
