Importance of Your Short Game
Improving your game around the greens is the quickest way to improve your scores. Think if you were to get up and down every time you were by the green how dramatically your handicap and scores would improve. That's why not only should you spend a lot of your practice time on short game but you should also invest in a good set of wedges, THEY'RE IMPORTANT!
To help improve your short game and lower your scores come and try a new set of wedges. We are currently offering 15% OFF all WEDGES currently in stock.
Pro's Tip of the Month: Perfecting the Chip and Run
A great way of avoiding disaster is to take on the simplest shot and getting your ball rolling like a putt as soon as possible. The best way of doing this around the greens is the chip and run shot. Steps to follow when playing this shot:
Asses the lie and make a club selection. Your club selection will depend on how much fringe and how much green you've got to work with. The more green between you and the whole the less lofted your club choice should be.
Read the line of your chip like a putt and you'll have a great chance of making it. The idea of a chip and run is that it spends most of the time on the ground rather than in the air so think of it like a putt.
There is not a lot of wrist brake required for a chip and run. I like to get the club sitting quite upright and from here the whole technique feels more like a putt than a chip.
The stroke comes from a rock of the shoulders, just like your putting action
Try and follow these tips and you'll find once you've spent some time practicing this shot your short game will improve.
Rule of the Month
A Player taking relief from abnormal ground conditions, such as animal scrapings, will receive a free drop one club-length from the nearest point of relief, making sure they are no nearer the hole. However a player may not take relief under this rule if:
Interference by anything other than the abnormal ground condition makes a swing impractical
Interference would only occur through a clearly unreasonable stroke, an unnecessarily abnormal stance, swing or direction of play.
For example if your stance is in some animal scrapings, but your ball is in a bush, which prevents you from making a swing, you cannot take relief using this rule Or, if you need to stand with your feet 10ft apart in order to have the abnormal ground conditions interfere with your stance, you cannot take relief using this rule.
