A Message from the Captains Following the very successful 25th Anniversary Celebrations Last weekend the Club and Members celebrated our “Silver Jubilee” – 25 Years. The festivities began with the Borer Anniversary Trophy on Saturday Morning, incorporating a specially planned Mixed Event for all other members. 83 members took part and enjoyed the wonderful late summer weather and a visit to the Halfway Hut where they were greeted by Roger & Veronica with drinks and delicious Bacon Butties prepared by Kevin. Ian McGowan won the Borer Anniversary Trophy, Debbie Rose won the Ladies Event on countback from Karen Cottle, and Jeff Knot won the Mixed Event. Congratulations to all winners including nearest the pins & longest drives. The Clubhouse was transformed for the evening dinner. A team of Ladies worked tirelessly on Friday to make the Clubhouse and Marquee sparkle! The atmosphere was perfect, complimented by an autumnal sunset. There were complimentary drinks on the terrace, allowing those who missed a putt on the 18th Green to have another sigh. Kevin and his team presented 152 Members & Guests with a fantastic three course dinner and we all enjoyed copious amounts of wine provided by the Members Fund which Roger had been nurturing for the past few years. Roger Borer presented a History of Bletchingley Golf Club, Granville Wise regaled us with his witty memories and Dave-San Miguel-Allard entertained us with his usual panache. The raffle and auction were extremely well supported and our wholehearted thanks go to the members who helped to raise £3860 for YMCA East Surrey. Debbie Rose was the highest bidder for Kevin’s “Galloping Gourmet” Night – speak nicely to her and you might be invited! Thank you to Kevin for his generosity in providing this item. The evening was rounded off with Music & Dancing with John & his Band, and came to a close all too quickly. What a good time we all had! The kitchen re-opened at 10.30am on Sunday Morning when a quite few members took the “Hangover Scramble” quite literally, including our brilliant organiser, Tim Burke. The Catering Team served up a delicious brunch, then 64 members took to the course again to play “Roll the Dice” Scramble – an entertaining take on a Texas Scramble where the roll of the Dice determines which drive is taken – this leads to some less than desirable choices. To Adrian’s great delight, the dice rolling experts Judith & Peter Ross, together with your two Captains, were victorious. A lot of hard work over a long period of time led to a superb weekend for Bletchingley, however none of this would be possible without the support of our Members. As we have said in numerous recent speeches, it is the Members who make a Club, and we have a fantastic Club. Here’s to the next 25 years! |
