Welcome to another exciting edition to Bletchingley Golf Club's weekly newsletter. Well, this week we can officially say that the golfing season has got underway with-it being Masters week. It looks like it's going to be another fantastic scene at Augusta National, and we hope that you enjoy it as much as us.

Corry Cup Final

A warm summers-like day saw the conclusion of the Men’s Winter Foursomes competition on Saturday. Congratulations to Paul Stephens and Steve Ghost in winning the Corry Cup by beating Ian McGowan and Terry Gay one-up.

The lead changed three times on the front-nine with Paul and Steve getting to the half-way stage two-up. Despite giving twelve shots, Ian and Terry battled hard to get the match back to all square after 16, before Paul managed to sink a nervy 3-footer on 18 to secure victory.

A close match played in great spirit (and short sleeves!), well done to all.

Course news

Update

I’m pleased to announce that Wiseville & Co Ltd have purchased two machines. The first is a sidewinder machine that will help cut grass banks and backs of bunkers. This will also any scalping that is caused with the incorrect machinery. The second is another fairway mower that will reduce the amount time it takes to prepare the fairways and gives us an option of double cutting and creating patterns on the fairways for a better finish.

Competition news

April Medal

Last Sunday was the first white tee Medal of the season, and I’m sure most of the competitors experienced a considerably different course after playing off the yellows all winter. Congratulations to Jonathan Evans on winning Division one with a very solid nett 70, two shots better than Mark Fuller in second place with a nett 72. Chris Tyler who has just joined us recently from Haywards Heath played for the first time off the white tees, and finished top of the pile in Division two also with a nett 70. Don Baillie finished second three shots back.
