Men’s Captain’s Charity Day

Well, Saturday arrived and after many days of nervous watching and waiting regarding the weather, the day dawned bright and sunny, much to my relief! However, the effect of the rain over the last couple of weeks had created an excellent golf course with lush fairways and near-perfect greens, much commented on by the competitors for the day. I was delighted that there were 88 players from both Bletchingley and all over the South East, and I have to say the standard of golf was very high indeed. There was a Kia Rio on offer for a Hole-in-One on the 14th hole as well as three other excellent prizes on other par-3’s and the winning team each walked away with a laser range-finder.

After the golf, we sat down to an amazing buffet from Kevin and a first-class entertainer who not only made everybody laugh but was also able to elicit terrific bids from the audience for the auction lots – the total earned for Sir Ian Botham’s Charity is over £6,000 on the day for which I am thrilled.

I would like to thank everybody who contributed in so many different ways to help make the day extra special, the players, the helpers and all the Bletchingley staff. Here with an email received from one of the outside competitors that make such great reading for the Club:

Today’s golf day was absolutely exceptional, touches of class everywhere and great people representing the club in so many places on the course. I was so impressed with the course and the comedian was quite brilliant.
I’m not sure I’ve ever been to a better charity golf day. I’m glad the weather held off.

Finally, I couldn’t let this report go by without mentioning the amazing Mark Fuller who arrived unexpectedly for the lunch session only 48 hours after leaving the hospital, to the delight of all the Bletchingley members present – the cherry on the cake!

Wow. What a strike

How good does it feel when you strike the ball right out of the sweet spot? Pretty special, right? As much as we'd all love to, striking the centre of the clubface on every shot isn't realistic, which is why opting for some irons with added MOI could make all the difference.

What is MOI?

An iron’s actual sweet spot is no bigger than a pinhead, with anything struck outside resulting in the clubhead beginning to twist at impact – this is what is commonly referred to as MOI. The higher a club's MOI, the more stable it is through impact and therefore more resistant to twisting. So...
