Roped off Areas

As there has been some heavy rainfall over the last week, the greenkeepers have had to rope off some areas of the course, as they are starting to get fairly wet. These areas are not deemed G.U.R unless there is a sign stating otherwise. However we do want to ask all golfers not to take trolleys or buggies in these areas, and avoid walking in them where possible.

Trollies

With the weather not improving, we would like to encourage members that are able to carry their clubs to carry as opposed to using trollies. This is optional and there is not a trolley ban, however it will benefit the course if people are carrying their bags rather than using trollies.

Turkey and Ham Trot

The Turkey and Ham Trot is a fun and festive competition being held on the 14th December. The competition is a Texas Scramble format and the draw for the Turkey and Ham Trot will be taking place on the 8th of December.

Countdown to Callaway's New Range!

During the week, Mike and I attended a meeting with a Callaway rep to discuss stocking their new range of products. Callaway is something that we haven't stocked for a while as we have felt there have been better products from other companies. However this year we were both very impressed!

The new Callaway range, the Callaway XR, will be launched in February 2015 and will replace their current X2 Hot Range. The new woods are fitted with Callaway's RoMOTO Technology. It's new and groundbreaking. It provides the structure to save weight and allow an ultra-thin face that maintains stability while elevating ball speed across the whole of the face, meaning off centre hits will go further than any other driver. Every driver should have this, but at the moment only Callaway does!

The clubs will be finished in Matte Black which helps prevent glare and looks great at address, in fact they are some of the best looking woods I've ever seen!

They will also be launching some irons to run alongside these woods, which will feature Callaway's patented Face Cup technology which makes the face more flexible than the face of previous Callaway irons, this produces higher ball speeds across the face, even on off-center hits.

This product is something we are very excited to start stocking. The best moment of the year

From such an incredible year for European golf, I could pick out many special moments. Jamie Donaldson's winning shot at Gleneagles, Martin Kaymer's putt at 17 at Sawgrass - but I think I have to select a Rory moment, so I will go for him winning the Open at Hoylake in the way he did. For a single moment I'd say it was his eagle on the last on the Saturday afternoon. That was so special and really sent a message out to the entire field.

But it was the entire week and his total domination which sparked off a run of golf - he won the WGC Invitational and US PGA in his next two outings - that was just obscene.

It was pretty special stuff, especially watching him embrace with his mum, walking off the 18th on the way to pick up the Claret Jug.

How long will Rory McIlroy remain world number one and how many majors will he win?

Rory is maturing and getting better and better as a player.

His form in the second half of this year has blown away a lot of people. I think we are witnessing at least a five-year spell as world number one. I think he is going to dominate in the way Tiger Woods did in the early 2000s.

The question of how many majors he will win is more a question of how many he wants to win. The most special thing about Tiger was his drive and desire, growing up with images of Jack Nicklaus's 18 majors as his inspiration. That kind of mental strength is tough to measure in a player. Of course, a lot can happen in the next five years but, if Rory continues to play the way he is doing, he could win three, four or maybe five more majors in that time.

He could then be close to 10 in total and whether he wants to go beyond that is entirely up to him.
