MacMillan 'The Longest Day' Challenge On Tuesday, 22nd September, eight crazy ladies started their 72-hole challenge to support the MacMillan Emergency Appeal. We said goodbye to Summer on a glorious day at Gatton Manor, completing two 3.5-hour rounds with relative ease. |
The format of the National Challenge is two best scores from 4, and the “Babes” finished 1 point ahead of the “Birdies”. We celebrated with a glass of wine by the lake and enjoyed the late afternoon sunshine. Another early start on Wednesday, we found ourselves wrapped up warm and saying hello to Autumn - What a contrast! The course at Bletchingley was most definitely more challenging, not only the longer walks and hills, two four-hour rounds, but biting wind and freezing cold showers. Both teams had a great morning and the 'Babes' put another two points on their lead, however, the 'Birdies' were not to be beaten, maintained great golf, and managed a final victory, winning by two points, well done. |

We entertained ourselves over the two days with spontaneous “Nearest the Pin” challenges with plenty of Prosecco being won along the way. But the real winners are MacMillan. Thanks to all who have supported us we have raised a fantastic £5000 including Gift Aid. The pages are still open with money pledged for our completion, so will publish the final figure at a later date.
It was not possible to complete the 72 holes in one day this year due to Covid restrictions, however, having had a taste of the Challenge, at least one team will be taking on the one day Challenge in 2021/2022. |
