Charity Day – 19th September Originally planned for the 13th June and in a format similar to last year, the Covid-19 restrictions were going to make it difficult to hold this event. No live auction or gathering of 80+ people in the function room, no cash sales of raffle tickets and no possibility of offering a shotgun start, not the best starting point... However, with the full support of Wiseville & my charity day committee, we pressed on, hoping to raise something for our chosen charities. Starting at 8.18am and running through to 11.46, we had 26 teams of four taking part, which included 56 members but also 48 players from 20 other clubs. We had over 30 donated raffle prizes, 27 Lots for the on-line auction, Hole-in-One prizes on four of the Par 3’s and Ben Daniels taking drives off the 16th (into a very tough wind!). To ensure no more than 10 groups of four were seated in the function room, we calculated that this should allow everyone an hour to enjoy their post-round food. As it happened, the weather was so nice that nobody eat inside the clubhouse! Pre-paid raffle tickets enabled us to hold the draw before the event & for the winners to collect their prizes on the day. The golf prizes were won as follows; NP 12th - Matt Charman & Marilyn Davis NP 17th - Graham Kingston & Bev Clarke LD / Nr Line 9th - Stu Duffy & Marilyn Davis 1st Team - 105 pts: Graeme Coote, Stu Duffy, Harry Skinner, Alex Sara 2nd Team - 102 pts: Russell Bowden, Andy Boys, John Engall, Luke Richards 3rd Team - 101 pts: Steve Ghost, Bev Clarke, Peter Milton, Mags Aylott However, the real winners on the day were the charities. The auction raised c. £3,500 and we sold over £1,100 of raffle tickets. And the final result is a fantastic £7,400 contribution. To my helpers on the day, again huge thanks for all your supporT, this really was a team effort. To all the members, you have been absolutely brilliant this year in helping to support not only the charity day, but also so many other fund-raising initiatives. |
