Greetings from Steven Cookson | Bletchingley Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional |
Congratulations to Sarah Hussey
The Butler Tray was won by Sarah with a score of 41 points so not only does she have her handicap reduced for the second week in a row, but she is also the proud winner of the Butler Tray for 2015. Viv Harrison was second with 40 points, and tying with 38 points were Sue Rumble, Pauline Bourne and Gerri Schofield - Sue getting 3rd position on countback.
Ian Mcgowan wins the Bletchingley Masters 2015
The Bletchingley Masters Final was played this morning between Terry Gay and Ian McGowan.
It was a match played in Great Spirit, and as always in Matchplay, it was a match where the lead can change dramatically as it unfolds.
Terry was 5 up after 5, but a chip-in from Ian for a birdie on 6 halted Terry's advance. By the 9th, Terry's lead was down to 2.
Thereafter it was nip and tuck, but Ian reeled in those 2 holes by the finish of the 16th, and then Ian won the 17th, and the 18th was halved. So Ian McGowan was the Victor!

Four members of Bletchingley Golf Club are taking part in the longest day golf challenge on Monday, 22 June 2015 at Bletchingley Golf Club. The purpose of the day is to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer nurses, who give valuable support and care to those who have been diagnosed with cancer and their families.
Chris Young, Simon Glastonbury, Steve Phillips and Matt Garner will tee off at 4.45am and play 72 holes of golf in the day in order to raise as much as they can for this worthwhile charity.
Please help them by donating via the sponsorship form on the noticeboard or online via their Just Giving page at http://www.justgiving.com/Chris-Young17, or you can look them up through their team name 'The Fore Players'.
Many thanks again in advance for your support and generosity.

Are you using the right Putter...?
A good putter should feel like an extension of your arm. Therefore, when it comes to the selection process, comfort when using one should be high on the list. After all, the key to good putting is confidence, which can also come from your compatibility with a putter. The first thing you need to recognise is the stance you adopt when standing over a putt, along with your eye alignment. The latter can determine the path of your stroke, which reinforces the importance of choosing a style to suit you.
If you favour a 'straight back, straight through to the hole' style of stroke, you need to try to align your eyes directly over the ball. A Putter that is face balanced will compliment this style and help you to be consistent in this stroke when it matters the most.
If you are positioning your eyes inside the ball at address, this encourages a stroke that works inside your intended line on your takeaway, also known as 'in-square-in'. This is a very common style. I would suggest a putter with some added toe weight, which will help you to square up the face upon impact.
If you're struggling on the greens (we've all been there), whether it be controlling distance, reading lines, or holing out. You may benefit from experimenting with some other putters and styles. In which case, don't hesitate to book in a lesson, so we can identify what could work for you. Simply book via the professional and quote "Putting Special" for a special limited price of £20.
